Violinist Angele Dubeau is a graduate and First Prize Winner of the Montreal Conservatory of Music. She pursued her studies at the Juillard School of Music and from 1981 to 1984, left for Romania to work with Stefan Gheorghiu. Since then, Angele Dubeau has become one of Canada’s most prominent artists. In 1997, Angele Dubeau created La Pieta, a string ensemble, bringing together some of the finest women musicians in Canada. Under her direction, the group has quickly acquired a solid reputation. From the beginning, La Pieta has performed in some of Canada’s most prestigious venues, as well as on both Radio-Canada and CBC television networks. Their most recent CDs include Infernal Violins and Passion, and their first six CDs, released on the Analekta label, were the best selling records of their categories in Canada. Infernal Violins earned them a place on the Billboard Top 20 for several weeks in 2004. La Pieta is comprised of four violins, two violas, cello, double bass, and piano. The ensemble performs standing in a semicircle around the grand piano, and each member has time in the spotlight. The program features
a range of works, all of which have a thematic relation to Passion as
the program is named.
